As a massive fan of minimalist design and what it offers i thought i would start a set of posts on minimalist resources I’ve stumbled upon whilst navigating the internet, with a brief explanation as too why i liked the resource and how it could be helpful to others.
Minimalist icon sets
Found these over at 1stwebdesigner,a really nice collection of some very nice icon sets, perfect for a website looking to achieve a minimalist look, the article was by Daniels Mekšs.
I really like the “Token”, number 9 in the list, and the “Ecqlipse 2″, number 6 collections. “Token” because even at such a small size its still easy to identify what each icon represents and i like “Ecqlipse 2″ because it doesn’t get any simpler than black and white, using these icons on a dark or light website would allow them to contrast really well making them stand out to the user so much more.
Minimalist desktop wallpaper
You cant beat a great desktop wallpaper and there are a lot to choose from in the post over at Hongkiat. My favorites from this collection are “Vivid 2″ (By Alex L) because for some reason it reminds me of the 80′s, which i love (who doesn’t love the 80′s?), and Alex has made great use of color to contrast with the dark background. I also like “Wallpaper Focus White” (By Kasukedo Gonpor) which i like because it so simple and makes use of my favorite color, grey.
Minimalism in Web Design: A Guide
A great article over at Six Revisions which sums up perfectly what it takes to make something (a website, a graphic, an icon set etc) minimalist. The section on “The Art of Taking Away” is especially useful as its a concept linked to usability (another interest of mine), by removing unnecessary elements on a website you can help a user get to where they really want to be.
